Day 1

Nakeli Ancient Tea-horse Road Old Town

In the morning, we will visit Nakeli old town, one of the very key stops on the ancient Tea-horse Road. We’ll get to wander around the ancient roads and routes that the local township management has restored. Today, the township has restored and preserved 4km section of the tea-horse road, linking different villages and a total of 17 cultural sites.

About Nakeli and Ning’er:

Ning’er may not be the most well known attraction in Yunnan, but it had its prime in the past. Ning’er County is known as the birthplace of Pu’er Tea and the beginning of the famous Ancient Tea Horse Road.

Organic Rose Farm Dumpling Making Experience

In the afternoon, we will go to a local organic rose farm run by a friend. In addition to the farm’s main product, Yunnan dark red roses, there are also more than 40 kinds of “exotic” fruits planted here, which most of you may have only seen in the supermarkets. We will be guided through the farm and taught how to recognize and taste the seasonal fruits and  various organic vegetables. Finally, we will get to experience hands-on colorful dumpling making with coloring derived from the plants growing on the farm.

Day 2

Royal Ancient Tea Plantation

We will head to a royal ancient tea mountain where you’ll get to walk through a nearly wild ancient tea plantation, experience tea picking, tea making and tasting of ancient tree tea. If the weather allows, we will also hike to the spot where the oldest tea tree is located in this area.

About the Royal Ancient Tea Plantation:

The royal ancient tea garden was designated by the Qing government as a royal tea garden for more than 200 years. It is a centralized cultivation of more than 400 ancient tea trees at an altitude of 1,640 meters. Now the tea plantation is protected by organic standards, and chemical fertilizers, pesticides and other tea are not allowed to enter the protected area.

Bajiaodi Eco Village Tour

Bajiaodi Eco Village is located in Dongchuan, Kunming. Four years ago, after all the villagers moved out, the new Bajiaodi was founded by two friends with the goal of building a green sustainable community where new residents would practice an eco-conscious self-sufficient lifestyle. It’s currently the only vegetarian village in Yunnan.

The entire village is a sustainable community built around the themes of natural architecture, natural education, natural medicine, natural farming methods, and the revitalization of the entire abandoned village and its surrounding resources through the reconstruction and reuse of rural buildings, and project-based study and research activities, which will lead to the revitalization of the local countryside.

Day 3

Pottery Making Experience+ Temple Meal+ Rural Hot Spring

The pottery industry has a long history in Yunnan, with hundreds of local villages that were built around the ancient industry of pottery making and firing in the local craft. On this day we will visit one of the pottery villages that date back a few generations ago and visit one of the original dragon kilns. Here you will get to experience making your own pottery using local clay. In the afternoon, we will visit a local ancient temple and enjoy a delicious meal prepared by the staff.

Before the trip ends, we will head to a local countryside hot spring to relax and unwind from the trip and enjoy a local family style dinner.
